Hiking & Outdoor Fitness

School: Kamaile Academy Public Charter School
Grade Level: Grades 7-12
Teacher: Anna Ellis and Sayles Day

Driving Question: How does our connection to outdoor places inform our understanding of the Waianae community? Furthermore, how can we deeply and respectfully engage with outdoor places?

What did the students DO?

Hiking and Outdoor Fitness students participated in regular weekly or weekend hikes across the island of Oʻahu connecting with place through hikes to Kaʻena Point, Koko Head Crater, Puʻu o Hulu (Māʻili Pill Box), Kānewai at Mauna Kaʻala, Lanikai Pill Box and more. Clearly students were highly engaged in the activity as attendance for this group was extremely high. In total, this group participated in over twenty hikes.
