Meet Our Team

Kay has served as director for both PALS and PLACES since the beginning in 2006. She credits participating teachers and community partners for the evolution of each program. Throughout her childhood, Kay’s family lived in numerous states and countries – returning to Hawai`i when she was 13. She is a graduate of Waipahu High School. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Ohio – where she attended Ohio State University and lived for more than 30 years. Kay is wholeheartedly committed to place-based teaching and learning which she believes provides deeply intentional connections and real challenges and learning for both student and teacher. As important, connections with place highlight the necessary interdependence of school and community – and allows the best of each to emerge
