Diving Question: Were the events that occurred on January 17, 1893, in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi an overthrow or coup?

This project allowed students to study the Hawaiian Kingdom Overthrow of 1893 through the lens of Americans and Native Hawaiians, weighing both perspectives and forming their own opinions, backed by their research, on whether this event was a coup d’état or an illegal overthrow. Students processed their learning through writing, discussions, and slam poetry facilitated by world-renowned slam poet, Kealoha.
