Mural Making | 2020-2021

School: Nānāikapono Elementary School
Grade Level: Grades 5-6
Teacher: Charie Rarallo and Cara Muraoka

Driving Question: How can we design a mural that delivers a relevant message for our school community to promote a safe and welcoming environment?

The students were acting as muralists and decided to call themselves, the Mural Makers. As budding muralists they planned to create a wall painting at Nānāikapono Elementary School that displayed a message for the joy of reading. They started the year by sending out a survey to the school community. After speaking to the principal and reading the results of the survey, the group decided that a mural reflecting their love of reading would be perfect in the library. Unfortunately, the group faced challenges due to COVID19 protocols and was unable to complete the mural. Stay tuned!
