WES Seahorse Robotics | 2020-2021

School: Waiʻanae Elementary School
Grade Level: Grades 5-6
Teacher: Donna Soriano

Driving Question: How will WES Seahorse Robotics students collaboratively work to accomplish the robotics challenges assigned to them throughout the year?

What did the students DO?

Despite a full school year of COVID restrictions, teacher Donna Soriano and WES Seahorse Robotics students, were determined to compete in competitions.  The students entered the First Lego League Challenge “Replay”  and VEX Project Lead the Way competitions.  Students worked collaboratively to make choices about researching their problem, designing a solution, and programming their robot to accomplish its mission.  Each of these competitions were conducted virtually due to current restrictions.  Virtual competitions posed new challenges which included video recording, voice over narrations and strict time limits.  However, the challenge was accepted and it was a successful outcome.  The importance of teamwork and collaboration made the experience a success.
