What did the students DO?
This group delves into various musical instruments, styles, and vocal exercises, with a strong focus on improving students’ ukulele skills. They blend practical music lessons with exposure to performing arts, enriching their understanding of both music theory and live performance.
- Instrument & Music Exploration: The group is exploring a wide range of instruments, different music styles, terms, and vocal exercises. This broad exposure is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of music.
- Ukulele Practice & Progress: All students have made significant progress on the ukulele, practicing diligently for a holiday performance. They are now able to play songs from memory, showing considerable improvement.
- Public Performance: The group had their first public performance at the school’s Holiday Luau, where they showcased their ukulele skills.
- Exposure to Performing Arts: Students attended several performances at the Performing Arts Center in Kapolei, including a holiday play and the production of “Peter Pop Pan.” These experiences inspire them and expose them to different performance arts.
- Building Ukuleles: In a creative turn, each student built their own ukulele this month, enhancing their hands-on understanding of the instrument and fostering a deeper connection to their music learning.
This program provides a well-rounded musical education, combining hands-on instrument practice with exposure to professional performances. The students’ progress in playing ukulele, along with their confidence in performing publicly, highlights the success of the program. By attending live performances and engaging in creative projects like building their own instruments, students gain a deeper appreciation for music and the performing arts.
