Keiki Coders

School: Kamaile Academy
Grade Level: Grades 4-6
Teacher: Britney Yadao

Driving Question: How can haumana develop skills in coding to tell stories about the history and importance of community places and place names?

What did the students DO?

Students in the Keiki Coders group worked with technology experts from our friends at the Purple Mai’a organization utilizing the Scratch application to create movement in their video stories based on the mo’olelo of Pōkaʻi and some of the lore connected to that area of the Waiʻanae Coast.  By the end of the semester, each student was able to present an original Scratch animated project to showcase at the PALS hōʻike.

Although the teacher had little experience with Scratch, she was passionate about learning alongside her students and was able to demonstrate the disposition of a good learner.
