Green Thumb Gardeners | 2019-2020

School: Nānāikapono Elementary School
Grade Level: 3-5
Teacher: Wendy Gumm and Luania Sula

Driving Question: How can we, as students, use gardening to improve our health and fulfill cultural needs?

These little gardeners explored native, medicinal, fruit, herbs, succulents, and many other plants that can improve the health of their community. They focused on plant identification, care, and benefits for the first part of the school year. During the second semester, they participated in plant giveaways at the Nānākuli Library Mākeke Market once a month. These giveaways were instrumental in the application of their learning.
